MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, along with the Arab countries, celebrates the 80th anniversary of the founding of the League of Arab States. Since joining the League in 1971, the Sultanate of Oman continues its firm approach in matters that enhances joint Arab action and consolidates the principles of Arab solidarity and regional stability to achieve the aspirations of the Arab peoples for progress, growth and prosperity.
Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League, affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman believes in the importance of the Arab League as a unifying framework for Arab countries and is keen to support its role and enhance its working mechanisms to be more capable of facing regional and international challenges.
Al Rahbi noted that achieving food security, economic integration and other shared Arab goals requires clear political will from Arab countries as well as more effective implementation mechanisms within the Arab League.
He emphasised that the Sultanate of Oman plays a pivotal role in many issues within the Arab League, whether political, economic, or cultural. It has always supported dialogue and peaceful solutions and has always attempted to bring the views of Arab countries closer together on many issues.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the ambassador said that the Sultanate of Oman affirms in all its meetings at the Arab League that peace in the region will not be achieved without addressing the roots of the crisis. This will only be possible through a just and comprehensive settlement based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Regarding other Arab crises, the ambassador said that the Sultanate of Oman continues its steadfast approach in supporting dialogue and peaceful solutions to end conflicts whether in Yemen, Libya, Sudan, or Syria. The Sultanate of Oman believes that military solutions cannot be a means to end crises. — ONA
