Muscat - The Sultanate of Oman is celebrating the World Water Day, which falls on March 22 every year, under the theme: 'Preserving Glaciers.'
Zahir bin Khalid al Sulaimani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Water Association, emphasized the importance of preserving global water resources, as this year's theme, "Preserving Glaciers," reflects the growing challenges facing the ecosystem due to climate change and melting ice.
He explained that glaciers are natural reservoirs of fresh water and play a key role in feeding rivers and lakes, directly impacting global water security. He noted that climate change and rising temperatures are accelerating the melting of glaciers, posing a threat to water supplies and increasing the risk of natural disasters such as floods and sea level rise.
He stressed that the Sultanate of Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said (may God protect and preserve him), attaches great importance to environmental and water sustainability issues and supports international efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and preserving water resources for future generations.
He pointed out that the Oman Water Association continues its efforts to raise awareness about the importance of water sustainability, promote scientific research in water management, and support national and international initiatives aimed at protecting natural resources.
