Muscat: Oman beach soccer team began their campaign at AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025 with an emphatic 7-1 victory over Vietnam in Group D at the Jomtien Beach Arena on Friday. The triumph delivered three crucial points for champions of 2015 AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup. Oman will meet Malaysia on Sunday in the following clash while Vietnam aim to bounce back as they will face Bahrain on the same day.
Oman players kicked off the match strongly as they created many scoring attempts seeking early goals. Abdullah al Souti opened the scoring account in the early in the game as he sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal while Sami al Balushi doubled the result for Oman through a penalty kick as Oman led 2-0 in the opening period.
In the second period, Mashal al Oraimi scored the third goal to make it 3-0 with a long-range strike before Abdullah al Souti returned to extend the lead by scoring the fourth goal and his second as Oman led 4-0.
In the third and deciding period, Vietnam players pressed hard towards Oman’s side as they managed to reduce the scoring gap by scoring their first goal through Ho Quoc Hung.

Later, coach Talib Hilal’s men continued their domination as Ahmed al Owaisi etched his name in the scoring chart by finding the target for the fifth goal. Musallam al Oraimi strengthened Oman’s lead as he found the target twice in the third period as he scored the sixth and seventh goals to make it 7-1.
The Oman team will aim to secure spot in the quarterfinals and go further in their eighth Asian appearance. The main target of the Omani players is to repeat the memories of 2015 as the team had crowned as champions of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup. Furthermore, Oman were also silver medallists at the Asian Beach Soccer Cup in 2011 besides winning bronze medals in 2009 and 2019. Under technical guidance of coach Talib, the national team won a gold medal in the Asian Beach Games in 2008. Furthermore, Oman had reached Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup five times in history.
