Oman Hikers, a group of passionate hikers who continuously explore Oman’s mountainous terrain, are taking full advantage of the late evenings during the holy month by embarking on prominent hikes.

With the participation of young adventurers who leave no stone unturned in their exploration of the country, the group is becoming increasingly popular. Several groups of people from Oman and the surrounding region are conquering the various Omani peaks across the country.

Approximately 60 people from Oman Hikers recently went on a hike in Wadi Kabir after Iftar as part of their bi-weekly hiking spree around the Muscat area. According to Mohammed Rahees, the hiking leader, all the participants, including men, women and children, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Mohammed Rahees, a veteran hiker who guides passionate climbers day and night, mentioned that the Oman Hikers Group has 778 members. There is a significant amount of curiosity among hikers from the GCC region and beyond, both for solo and group hikes in Oman. The country offers diverse hiking options.

“Hiking is gaining more popularity now, especially at night when the climate is ideal for the sport. We receive numerous queries and requests from all over the country,” said Mohammed Rahees, who assists and educates people on reaching the peaks.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) recently organised a 41-km long trail for the public, catering to the increasing demand and tourism potential for hiking.

The trail, named “Challenge and Discover”, was a mountain hike spanning from Wadi Bani Khalid to Wadi Tiwi. It was an exemplary showcase of planning and execution by the ministry.

“It was a formidable challenge, knowing it would test our physical and mental limits. What we didn’t anticipate was the depth of the memories and lessons we would carry from this adventure,” said Mohammed.
