

Muscat: The Office of Majlis Ash’shura held its eighth regular meeting for this year under the chairmanship of Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the Office reviewed the response of the Minister of Education to a request for a briefing on the vocational and technical education project. In her response, the minister stated that the implementation of vocational and technical education comes in response to the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik calling for the development of education at its various levels and types in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the School Education Law.
The meeting also reviewed a response provided by the Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs to a request for a briefing regarding the Omani Hajj camp for the 1446 AH Hajj season. The response explained that the Ministry had held official meetings this year with specialists from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss the situation of the Omani camp in Mina and Arafat adding that work is underway to improve its infrastructure pending the completion of the integrated strategic project.
The Office also reviewed the response of the Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to a request for a briefing to clarify some of the financial and administrative work of a number of OIA affiliated companies.
The Office also reviewed the response of the North Al Batinah Governor to a request for a briefing on building permits for lands distributed along wadis. The response explained that work is underway to halt the issuance of building permits for lands located along valley courses. The Directorate-General of Housing and Urban Planning in North Al Batinah Governor has been instructed to halt the allocation of residential lands to citizens in these locations in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The Office also reviewed a number of follow-up tools submitted by the members of Majlis Ash’shura. Among the topics reviewed were, a parliamentary question submitted to the Minister of Housing and Urban Planning regarding violations committed by some engineering consultancies was reviewed, a request for briefing submitted to the Chairman of the Environment Authority regarding the protection of natural resources from pollution and depletion as well as a request for briefing submitted to the Chairperson of the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) regarding supporting small and medium enterprises to enhance the tourism sector. This is in addition to a request for briefing submitted to the Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority regarding the delay in services provided by Be’ah Company.
