MUSCAT: The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Committee of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) convened its first meeting of 2025 at the Chamber’s headquarters, chaired by Shaikh Ahmed bin Amer al Musalhi. The session brought together committee members to review strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the SME sector.

Among the key programmes discussed were the “My Institution’s Sustainability Platform,” the “My Share for Social Investment” initiative, and the “Labour Market Regulation for Recruitment Offices” initiative.

Other notable projects included the Food Security Initiative, the Persons with Disabilities Institutions Initiative; and the Engineering and Design Work Platform Initiative — all designed to enhance SME growth and integration into the national economy.

The committee also evaluated cooperation agreements signed with various government and private sector entities, ensuring their alignment with set objectives. Additionally, members reviewed recent visits to OCCI branches across Oman, reinforcing regional collaboration and SME support.

Looking ahead, the committee finalised its 2025 annual action plan and established a dedicated team to oversee the implementation of initiatives, ensuring measurable progress and impact.

Al Musalhi emphasised the SME sector’s pivotal role in Oman’s economic development, stating, “Our focus remains on fostering an environment that empowers entrepreneurs and strengthens their capabilities. Collaboration with government and private stakeholders is essential to sustaining this sector’s growth.”

He further noted that the committee is committed to enhancing SME sustainability and innovation through its 2025 agenda, paving the way for a more dynamic and resilient business ecosystem. — ONA
