

SUR: Students of public relations major at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences-Sur (UTAS) launched a public awareness campaign on cyber safety titled, 'Jabil Ammrk'.
Dr Sana al Hadabi, Deputy of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, unveiled the name and logo of the campaign marking the official beginning of campaign activities.
Dr Raya al Hajri, Deputy Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Electronic Systems and Student Services, Hana al Sulaimi, Head of Mass Communication Department, directors of various centres, faculty members and students attended the event.
The campaign focuses on educating the community about the growing risks of cyber threats and the importance of protecting personal information online. The 'Jabil Ammrk' campaign aims to provide students, professionals and the community with comprehensive knowledge and skills to develop safer digital habits.
Revealing the logo, Dr Al Hadabi said: "The logo reflects the theme of the campaign, reminding individuals to be aware and protect themselves online. This initiative is an excellent example of how students can use public relations to address real-world challenges."
During the launch event, public relations students explained the importance of the theme of cyber safety and offered details of the meaning of the campaign logo. The logo design represents vigilance, awareness and digital responsibility, encouraging individuals to be mindful of their actions in the digital space. The campaign highlights key topics such as password security, phishing, scams and privacy protection to help people navigate the online world safely.
Hawraa al Jahwari, Public Relations student, expressed pride in the campaign, saying, "Jabil Ammrk reflects the importance of being cautious and responsible in the digital world. It serves as a reminder to think before we click, share, or engage online. The logo visually represents this idea, with its structured design symbolising protection and awareness. This campaign encourages everyone to be mindful of their online actions and prioritise cyber safety."
Students have also planned awareness activities, including interactive workshops, social media promotions and training sessions led by cyber safety experts. The activities will disseminate messages related to common online risks and practical ways to stay safe.
Public Relations students of the Department of Mass Communication at UTAS Sur organise awareness campaigns annually as part of their practical assignment. These experiential projects allow students to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations, preparing them for media, corporate communication and digital marketing careers. The campaign continues till May end with regular updates and engagement activities shared on social media platforms and university broadcast channels.
