BAHLA: Amid an atmosphere filled with spirituality and joy, the children of Bahla revived a cherished Ramadhan custom passed down through generations. Laylat Al Aqba, which falls in the middle of the holy month Ramadhan, is a celebration of children who have successfully fasted for 15 days, marking their achievement with a religious gathering full of supplications and praises.
Despite the differences in names and traditions, the common thread is the overwhelming joy that fills the hearts of children and their families, along with the spiritual ambiance that defines this occasion.
The Al Sour Team, affiliated with Bahla Club, in collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in Bahla and Marasim Tourism Company, organised a special event to commemorate Laylat Al Aqba. The event saw the participation of nearly a thousand children dressed in their traditional attire, parading through the ancient alleys of Bahla and its renowned fort, carrying lanterns that illuminated the night, all amidst a large and enthusiastic community turnout.
The event commenced with a Shaikh leading the gathering reciting supplications, with children joyfully repeating praises and glorifications of Allah after him. Their voices echoed through the streets, creating a heartwarming spiritual scene. Happiness radiated from their faces as they received gifts and treats, adding to the festive mood of the occasion.
Fatima al Shaqsi, a young girl, expressed her delight, saying, "I have completed 15 days of fasting in Ramadhan, and I am very happy that I could achieve this. I feel that today is a special recognition for me, and I am excited to continue fasting for the rest of Ramadhan and every year after."
Laylat Al Aqba reminds younger generations of the importance of traditions and heritage. With such celebrations continuing, Ramadhan remains a month that strengthens the bond between past and present, leaving children with unforgettable memories.
