Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) said there is an increase in online fraud cases involving individuals misusing registered commercial records to operate deceptive e-commerce stores.

In a statement, the ministry urged consumers to make purchases exclusively through e-commerce platforms licensed by the Ministry and verified on the Maroof Oman platform to ensure a secure shopping experience.

The ministry also advised the public to verify that contact details provided by licensed online stores align with those listed in their commercial registration.

Additionally, consumers are cautioned against transferring payments to personal accounts when making online purchases to mitigate the risk of fraud and financial loss.

The warning comes as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers and maintain a safe shopping experience.
