Pacts inked for service provision at Sorouh projects

Muscat: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning signed 24 cooperation agreements for the provision of infrastructure and services at the Sorouh Integrated Residential Neighborhoods projects, at the headquarters of the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), on Sunday.


The agreements represent part of the Ministry’s efforts aimed at developing integrated residential quarters and schemes. Three agreements were signed for each of Sorouh projects covering the construction of water and sewage networks, electricity distribution networks and the development of internet infrastructure. These services will cover eight quarters of Al Azm, Al Samou, Al Noor, Al Luban, Majd, Al Ahd, Hisn Al Zain and Tital Al Nakheel.


Engineer Hamad bin Ali al Nazwani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning for Housing, said that signing of the agreements constitutes a pivotal step in the development of integrated residential neighborhoods. He pointed out that cooperation with service providers reflects the Ministry’s commitment to implementing state-of-the-art infrastructure that enhances the attractiveness of modern residential quarters.


These agreements would accelerate the implementation of basic services, keeping pace with citizens’ aspirations for a sustainable residential environment, Al Nazwani explaining that the signing of the agreements is in line with the Oman Vision 2040 which prioritizes sustainability and quality of life.



Dr Mansour bin Talib al Hinai, Chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), emphasized that the signing of cooperation agreements between real estate developers and providers of electricity, water, and wastewater services, is a strategic step to enhance integration between relevant entities to ensure the provision of integrated and sustainable infrastructure for modern residential projects.


Al Hinai explained that the APSR, being the authority responsible for regulating the electricity, water, and wastewater sectors, endeavours to ensure efficient delivery of basic services as per the highest standards thus contributing to the creation of an advanced urban environment that supports urban development plans in the Sultanate of Oman. He noted that these agreements would boost the efficiency of residential project implementation by enhancing coordination between real estate developers and basic services providers to ensure the provision of reliable and sustainable services to new residential.


The signing ceremony was attended by the CEOs of Sorouh projects and representatives of Nama Water and Wastewater Company, Nama Electricity Distribution Company and Oman Broadband.
