Muscat, March 11
In a remarkable scene reflecting the spirit of giving and cultural belonging, the annual programme "Volunteers in Ramadhan" was launched with renewed energy. Youth teams aim to revive Omani Ramadhan heritage through community projects that bring back the traditional Ramadhan atmosphere, which has gradually faded over time.
The initiative, launched by the Omani Volunteer Network (Taa'awon), includes several volunteer projects focusing on reviving Ramadhan gatherings, reintroducing traditional Omani dishes in modern ways, organising heritage tours and promoting traditional crafts associated with Ramadhan.
The programme seeks to revive popular games and design Ramadhan decorations inspired by local culture.
The programme goes beyond fieldwork, requiring participating teams to produce media content documenting the details of their initiatives through videos, reports and photos that capture their achievements. This helps spread the culture of volunteering and raise awareness about the importance of preserving Omani heritage.
Commenting on this experience, Hayat al Lawati, leader of the 'Volunteers in Ramadhan' programme, emphasised that this year's version differs from previous ones in that it is not just about executing initiatives. It aims to transform Omani heritage into sustainable community projects that will have a lasting impact even after the holy month ends.
