Oman, Afghanistan agree to foster cooperation relations

Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, on Monday received Amir Khan Muttaqi, Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, who is presently on a several-day visit to the Sultanate of Oman.


During the meeting, the two ministers exchanged friendly conversation and reviewed historical ties between the two friendly peoples and the cultural civilisational values binding the two countries. They expressed their common desire to develop bilateral cooperation relations in various fields that would benefit the two friendly peoples and countries and agreed to foster trade exchange and investment opportunities in the field of food security and other sectors and exchange of knowledge and expertise through education and training programmes.


Sayyid Badr affirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s support for efforts aimed at facilitating Afghanistan’s integration into the international community to preserve its constructive role in the regional and international arenas.


The Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan stressed the importance of these meetings in opening new horizons for cooperation between the two countries, praising the Omani foreign policy and its approach based on respecting the sovereignty of states, non-interference in internal affairs, promoting regional and international peace and stability and prioritizing the language of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing various issues.


The meeting was attended by Shaikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah al Hinai, Ambassador-at-Large at the Foreign Ministry, and Omar Ghulam Rasouli, Charge D'Affaires of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Muscat as well as a number of officials from both sides.
