Muscat: Sufyan Mehmood, has emerged as the first Omani captain to bag a trophy for his team in the Oman Cricket’s Premier Division when Renaissance Cricket Team won the OC’s inuaugural 2-Day Championship.

“It is indeed a proud moment to become the first Omani captain to claim a title in the Oman Cricket’s Premier Division. I’m very happy to convert our previous runners-up finishes to a title for the first time,” an elated Sufyan told Oman Observer.

Last season, Renaissance were runners-up in Oman D10 and D20 championships under Sufyan’s captaincy. He also led OCT Seeb to second position in the All-Omani T20.

“This is the second title for me as a captain as I have led OCT Seeb to the championship in the All-Omani T10 tournament this season.”

The Oman national team’s bowling all-rounder, who took part in Oman’s World Twenty20 campaigns in Oman and West Indies/USA, brought his rich experience to full use in the 2-Day tournament by accumulating 213 runs from six matches at an average of 42.5 for his team Renaissance CT. The 33-year-old medium pacer showed his bowling skills as well with a five-wicket haul.

In All-Omani T10, Sufyan single-handedly took OCT Seeb to title glory as he won the man of the match awards five times in the six matches played. He scored 225 runs from six matches at an average of 75 to remain the main batting stay for OCT Seeb.

Sufyan thanked team management of Renaissance and Oman Cricket for the valuable support.

The OC 2-Day Tournament brought together Oman’s first division cricketers, providing them with the platform to adapt to the longer format and hone their techniques.

Renaissance claimed the title by bagging 22 points with 4 clean wins and 2 ties, while Muscat CT ended up on No.2 with 14 points winning 2 matches. Majees CT and IAS CT were the other participating teams.
