

Muscat: The Main Moon Sighting Committee (Hilal Committee) will be meeting under the auspices of Dr Mohammed bin Said al Ma’amari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs at 5.30pm at the Oman Astronomical and Space Society at Madinat Irfan on Friday to announce the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan for the year 1446 AH.
The Ministry has also urged citizens and residents to assist in sighting the crescent moon and to report to the local authorities if the moon is sighted.
Although the official announcement regarding the start of Ramadhan will come after sighting the moon, astronomists have guessed the beginning of Ramadhan on Saturday, March 01, the beginning ofnthe month of Ramadhan 1446.
On February 28, the sun will be setting at 6.09 and the moon will be visible at 6.40pm
So, the moon arrives after 30 minutes of sun set as visible in Islamic countries, more or less like in Europe or America.
One will be able to see the moon Friday, Shaban 29 based on the geographical location where one is, and in almost all countries of the world, Ramadhan will be on the 1st of March 2025.
