Muscat: The second day of the "Together We Progress" forum discussed various topics through a series of dialogue sessions, covering governorate development, the future of professions and jobs, the retirement system, culture, sports, youth, and the future of economic diversification sectors.

During the session, Dr Mahad bin Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, highlighted the forum’s focus on aligning workforce skills with market demands.

"The outputs are of high quality, but the job market requires additional skills. The ministry is working to bridge this gap through employment-linked training and on-the-job training," he stated.

The minister revealed that the Ministry of Labour had provided around 9,000 training opportunities tied to employment in 2024, a figure that has been increased to approximately 14,000 this year.

He further emphasised that government sector employment is based on actual needs, with the health and education sectors receiving around 6,000 jobs annually, in addition to a similar number of opportunities in the military sector.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour for Human Resources Development said during the event that vocational education outcomes are suitable for employment in various government and private sectors.

" Over 8,000 students are enrolled across 8 colleges, and there is a growing initiative to assess the training system in the Sultanate of Oman across government, private, and vocational levels.", he said.

The forum continues to serve as a platform for constructive discussions on national priorities, bringing together officials, and community members to shape policies for a sustainable and prosperous future.
