Oman to have 1,306 schools by 2025/2026: Minister of Education

Muscat: The Shura Council hosted on Wednesday Dr Madiha Ahmed al Shibani, Minister of Education, to deliver her ministry’s statement before the Council.


The statement addressed several key topics, which included the following:


Policies of school education in Oman, including school education within the 10th five-year plan, an evaluation of its performance up until the middle of the plan, and the future strategic plans.


School education in light of the School Education Law (its reality and challenges), as well as post-basic education tracks and their alignment with labour market needs.


The quality of school education in Oman, including evaluations of educational curricula and their impact on improving school curricula to keep up with global educational changes.


The statement addressed e-learning, educational platforms, and what the ministry provides in this regard for both students and teachers, along with the ministry’s plans for digital transformation and the use of artificial intelligence.


It also covered special education programmes for people with disabilities and autism, as well as the development of services related to education, such as student transportation, printing textbooks, and student activities.


According to the minister, 4,000 male and female teachers will be appointed during the academic year 2025/2026 , most of them Omani, bringing the total number of Omani teachers appointed in the tenth five-year plan to more than 19,000.



The minister said around 15,000 Omani male and female teachers were appointed during the first four years of the tenth five-year plan, compared to 6,800 teachers previously.


"The number of schools in the next academic year 2025/2026 will reach (1,306) schools, compared to (1182) schools in the academic year 2020/2021, with a growth rate of 10.4 percent", she added.
