Oman, Somalia explore investment opportunities

Dr Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, on Sunday received in Mogadishu Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and his accompanying delegation.


During the meeting, the minister conveyed greetings of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the President of Somalia. He also conveyed His Majesty’s wishes of good health and happiness to President Dr Hassan and further progress for the people of Somalia.


On his turn, the Somalian President asked the minister to convey his heartfelt sentiments to His Majesty the Sultan, along with his best wishes of good health and well-being. President Dr Hassan also wished the Omani people further progress and prosperity.


The meeting underscored the strength of the deep-rooted relations between Oman and Somalia and the importance of boosting cooperation in various sectors.


On the sidelines of the visit, a session of talks was held with the Somali side.


The session was attended by Fardowsa Osman Egal​​, Somalia’s Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, and Mahmoud Aden Geesood, Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport. It was also attended by several Somali officials.


The session discussed means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries. It also highlighted investment opportunities.


The Omani delegation to Somalia comprises Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shammakhi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, as well as officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Oman Airports and several other entities. — ONA
