As part of an initiative to explore potential student exchange programmes and mutual research collaborations, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Nizwa, welcomed a delegation of 22 students from Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (JGUM), Germany, on Thursday.
The group comprising students and faculty led by Dr Julia Verne, Professor of Cultural Geography, and Dr Sandra Petermann from the Department of Geography at the JGUM university, were hosted by the Department of Mass Communication at the College of Creative Industries.
The visit provided a platform for discussions on academic partnerships and cultural exchanges, fostering stronger ties between Oman and Germany in the field of higher education.
During the visit, the delegation participated in interactive sessions with UTAS faculty and students, exchanging insights on media studies, geography, and interdisciplinary research. Discussions covered mutual academic interests, potential joint projects, and student mobility opportunities. Faculty from the College of Creative Industries welcomed the initiative, highlighting prospects for research collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Tahani al Abri, Head of the Department of Mass Communication, expressed her enthusiasm for the visit, highlighting the importance of international collaborations in broadening students’ academic and cultural perspectives.
“We are excited about the opportunities for academic exchange between our institutions and look forward to future collaborations that will benefit students and faculty from both universities,” Al Abi said.
This visit marked a significant step toward fostering global academic networks, enhancing research collaborations, and creating new learning opportunities for students and faculty alike.
Ayesha Mualla echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the role of such initiatives in fostering cross-cultural understanding and academic excellence. “Exploring new avenues for research and student exchanges can lead to meaningful collaborations that enrich learning experiences and enhance global perspectives” Ayesha said.
The event concluded with a screening of a music video and documentary film produced by Digital Media students as part of their graduation projects, showcasing their creative talents.
