Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) alerts public on misleading advertisements that deceive consumers and distort the reality of products and services.
Aimed at promoting transparency and fair marketing practices, the authority is urging shoppers to stay vigilant and recognise the warning signs of deceptive advertising.
Misleading advertisements come in various forms, the CPA noted.
Some provide outright false information about a product or service, while others use exaggerated or distorted portrayals to lure customers.
Fear-based marketing tactics seek to pressure consumers into making purchases by creating a sense of urgency or anxiety, and fake testimonials rely on endorsements from non-existent individuals to create a false sense of credibility.
"Consumers must be cautious and always verify the authenticity of advertisements before making a purchase," the CPA said.
