Muscat: The Social Protection Fund has responded to concerns raised by the father of a child named Miral, who recently expressed frustration on social media over the decision not to classify his daughter’s condition as a severe disability. In an official statement, the fund emphasized its commitment to ensuring that eligible individuals receive their rightful benefits while clarifying the criteria for disability classification.

According to the statement, disability benefits are allocated to two categories: individuals with permanent disabilities and those suffering from chronic illnesses classified as persistent diseases. The fund explained that Miral’s medical condition does not currently fall under the predefined disability cases but assured her father that her eligibility would be reviewed within the framework of persistent illnesses, which are currently being classified in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Additionally, the fund confirmed that individuals with persistent illnesses will continue to receive benefits retroactively from the date the law was enacted, once the classification is officially approved. The Social Protection Benefits Granting Department reiterated its role in approving and disbursing social benefits based on data provided by specialized agencies. The fund also stated that efforts are being made to streamline procedures and accelerate the processing of benefits in collaboration with relevant institutions.
