MUSCAT: The Omani Crafts Exhibition, themed ‘Authenticity and Modernity,’ was inaugurated in Muscat under the auspices of Shaikh Rashid bin Ahmed al Shamsi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development, in the presence of dignitaries and officials from various government entities. Organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the exhibition, which runs until February 22, highlights Oman’s deep-rooted craftsmanship, showcasing traditional crafts alongside contemporary innovations.
The exhibition is divided into two pavilions: The Authenticity Pavilion, which features three distinct sections: a display of collectibles and discoveries from Omani craft heritage, a governorates corner representing traditional crafts across the country, and a photographic exhibition portraying the essence of Omani craftsmanship.
The Contemporary Pavilion, which includes two sections: one showcasing craft entrepreneurs and another dedicated to the integration of traditional craftsmanship into modern daily life.
The event aims to emphasise the cultural, economic and social significance of Omani crafts while fostering innovation among skilled artisans, small and medium enterprise owners, and emerging talents who are committed to preserving Oman’s craft identity. - ONA
