MUSCAT: The Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) organised an awareness event on Saturday focusing on obesity prevention, offering medical consultations and health advice to the public. The initiative aimed to promote a balanced diet, encourage physical activity and highlight the importance of avoiding harmful lifestyle habits.
Resident physicians specialising in general surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry and pediatrics participated in the event, providing expert consultations on obesity treatment and prevention strategies. The event, held at City Centre Muscat, emphasised the risks of obesity, its underlying causes and the psychological factors associated with weight management.
Attendees engaged actively in discussions, learning about effective ways to prevent obesity, maintain a healthy lifestyle and receive personalised guidance through individual and group consultations.
The event also aligned with the objectives of World Obesity Day, observed on March 4 each year, which seeks to raise awareness of obesity-related health risks and encourage people to adopt preventive measures. Experts stressed the importance of physical activity, early intervention and the application of appropriate treatment strategies, including medical and surgical options when necessary, to support safe and sustainable weight loss.
As obesity remains a growing global health concern, OMSB reaffirmed its commitment to fostering community and healthcare efforts to combat the issue, emphasising the importance of prevention and early treatment in ensuring a healthier society. — ONA
