Muscat: The Fertility Centre at Al Wattayah Obstetrics and Gynecology Complex, under the Directorate General of Khoula Hospital, has recorded 79 pregnancies since its inauguration in February last year. Among these cases, nine involved twin pregnancies, 13 resulted in successful births, and 39 pregnancies are still ongoing, offering renewed hope to couples seeking parenthood.
In a statement, Dr Naema Obaid al Maamariya, IVF and ICSI Consultant at Khoula Hospital said the center has provided services to over 5,000 patients, conducted more than 30,000 laboratory tests, and carried out 900 treatment cycles.
According to al Maamariya, it has performed 729 egg retrieval procedures and 224 frozen embryo transfers.
Recognizing the increasing demand for sperm retrieval procedures due to a high number of azoospermia cases, the center introduced a specialized microscope for sperm extraction within six months of its establishment.
Over the past months, numerous sperm retrieval operations have been performed and preserved for future IVF procedures, she added.
To further enhance infertility treatments, the center has organized training workshops for referral hospitals, equipping doctors with the expertise to assess and diagnose infertility cases. Additionally, educational materials have been published to raise awareness about the causes of infertility and available treatment options.
Al Maamariya also highlighted the creation of Oman’s first specialized database for infertility cases.
Meanwhile, patients can visit Khoula Hospital or access educational resources through the Ministry of Health’s official platforms.
