MUSCAT, FEB 11
The fourth edition of 'Monday Market' was inaugurated at Sultan Qaboos University, with the participation of 68 student projects, under the patronage of His Highness Dr Fahd bin Al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of SQU. The event, organised by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group, is held in the open theatre parking lot and will continue until February 12 from 4 pm to 9 pm. It serves as a platform that combines creativity and commerce, enhancing the culture of entrepreneurship among young people. The market operates under the umbrella of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre, one of the initiatives that aim to provide a supportive environment for students to help them display and market their projects while preparing them for the labour market. The exhibition showcased a variety of projects, including innovative ideas in technology, energy, handicrafts, and smart services. Participating students expressed their enthusiasm for the market experience, with some discussing the challenges and opportunities that the event provided for them. Ali al Rawahi, one of the students participating with his project in the field of environmental technology, shared his thoughts: “This exhibition gave me a golden opportunity to test my idea in front of the audience, interact with potential consumers, and understand their requirements directly. I was also able to communicate with investors interested in supporting my project, which I did not expect so quickly.” Another participating student who presented a project in sustainable fashion expressed her happiness with the experience, saying: “It was not easy to start a private project while studying but the university provided us with great support through this event. I learned a lot about marketing and business management and realised the importance of continuity and development. I hope this market will be a step towards transforming my project into a real brand in the future.”
The 'Monday Market' is a practical model for supporting entrepreneurship among young people, providing them with an opportunity to gain experience, test their ideas, and communicate directly with the market.
