The Social Protection Fund has signed up around 590,000 Omanis as of January. This number reflects a remarkable development in providing social protection to citizens and also indicates Oman's commitment to expanding the coverage of these systems and developing them in line with the needs of citizens. The number of social insurance branches has reached 124,000, which enhances the Fund's ability to reach the widest possible segment of society.

The SPF is more than just an insurance network for support beneficiaries; it represents an effective tool to mitigate the economic challenges that individuals and families may face in light of changing social conditions. With regard to social protection benefits, the number of beneficiaries reached one and a half million across several main categories:

1. Children: The number of children benefiting from social protection benefits reached 1,237,770.

2. Orphans and widows: The number of beneficiaries is 16,338.

3. Senior citizens: 171,212 elders benefited from social protection benefits.

4. People with disabilities: The number of beneficiaries of support for people with disabilities reached 42,912 people.

One of the most prominent benefits under SPF is family income support, which aims to improve the standard of living for families with limited income. According to statistics, the number of families benefiting from this support reached 42,688, including 18,626 from direct family income support. In addition, social security assistance continued to be disbursed, with 24,062 benefiting from this support. This plays a vital role in mitigating the economic challenges that Omani families may face, especially in light of the volatile economic conditions.

With regard to pensions disbursed, the total number of active pensions disbursed amounted to 124,750 pensions, including:

1. 193,459 life pensions provided to citizens who are experiencing financial or social difficulties.

2. 17,158 job security pensions paid to workers who have lost their jobs to ensure their financial stability.

3. 31,291 death pensions provided to the families of the deceased, reflecting the significant role played by the Fund in providing support to the families of deceased citizens.

The Observer spoke to a few beneficiaries of SPF. Saeed bin Mohammed, a retired citizen, said: “The support provided by the state through the Social Protection Fund helped me secure my life after retirement. I did not expect to be able to continue comfortably without the pensions I receive.” Amina bint Salem, a widow, said, “Thanks to these benefits, I was able to raise my children in better conditions. This support is invaluable, as it has enabled me to live a dignified life despite the challenges.” Nasser bin Saeed, a disabled person, said: “The disability grant made me feel valued and equal. The support I learn every month helps me cover the costs of treatment and daily needs.” Khaled bin Salem said: “The family income support has had a positive impact on our lives. This monthly amount helps meet our basic needs such as food and education for my children.”
