Muscat, FEB 10
The Ministry of Social Development celebrated the graduation of 60 male and female graduates from the second batch of the 'Be with Us for Them' initiative to rehabilitate people with disabilities. Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, was the chief guest. The initiative is in line with Oman Vision 2040 to empower people with disabilities. Awatif bint Muharib al Salman, Chairwoman of the Specialised Human Development Center, said: "The initiative seeks to provide advanced social services and create an integrated institutional community partnership system that enhances identity, citizenship, cohesion and social solidarity." The initiative included training in customer service, office management, printing and copying documents and digital archiving. The training was held at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Suhar and Mohammed Al Barwani Training Institute in Muscat.
Of the total beneficiaries, 22 were employed in Muscat and 8 in Suhar in public and private sectors.
"The initiative reflects the shared vision of empowering people with disabilities and enhancing their role in society, not only as recipients of support but also as active partners in development who have the ability to contribute and make change. True empowerment begins with creating an inclusive environment that provides everyone with fair opportunities for growth and prosperity, regardless of the challenges they face. It is not just a moral or social obligation but rather an essential element for achieving sustainable development based on the principles of justice and fairness," Dina al Khalili, General Manager of Al Jisr Charity Foundation, said.
Eman bint Mohammed al Barwaniyah, CEO of Mohammed Al Barwani Charity Foundation, said if creative young people with disabilities get training, they will be ready to compete in the labour market. 'Be with Us for Them' began in September 2022 with 84 male and female graduates. The first batch’s 52 graduates have gained jobs in 13 private sector entities. The initiative aims to train 500 beneficiaries by 2027.
