MUSCAT, FEB 10
The 11th edition of the Interior Design, Décor, and Furnishing (IDF) Expo began on Wednesday, under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Co-founder and CEO of NASCOM, in Muscat. The three-day event, organised by Al Nimr Expo, showcases over 200 participants from various countries. The exhibition serves as a significant platform for interior designers, architects, and furniture manufacturers to showcase the latest trends and innovations in the industry.
Speaking to the Oman Daily Observer, Project Director at Al Nimr Expo, Mustafa Al Qurashi, emphasised the continuous growth of the expo, “IDF Expo is one of the largest interior design exhibitions in the region, and this is our 11th edition. It is bigger than last year’s, growing steadily each year. We have more than 200 participants this year from India, Egypt, Iran, Italy, and other countries.”
Al Qurashi highlighted the rising trend of artificial intelligence and smart solutions integration in interior design and furniture. “A major trend we’re seeing is the incorporation of AI-driven intelligent solutions in interior design and furniture. This is why we have created the ‘Design Talk’ platform, where we host discussions with renowned architects and industry experts who are utilising these new technologies.”
The platform is held in collaboration with the Oman Design Association and features an artspace showcasing artwork, paintings, prints, sculptures, and photographs. Day 1 of the “Design Talks” discussions tackled various topics including the development of aesthetic standards in interior design, colour theory, and the role of higher education. In addition, there was a detailed lecture on Zaha Hadid’s works and a case study on Oman’s traditional architecture.
The platform also included multiple practical workshops such as ceramic design, architectural photography, portrait watercolour, and an animation workshop.
According to data analytics firm GlobalData, the construction market in the Sultanate of Oman was valued at approximately $19.6 billion, with projections indicating an average annual growth rate of 4 per cent from 2025 to 2028.
