MUSCAT: The Directorate General of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Sharqiyah South has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Oman’s livestock sector, securing second place in the prestigious 'Dhofari Sheep Breed' competition as part of Sinaw Maqsadna 2025.

This achievement highlights the Directorate’s ongoing initiatives to preserve and promote Omani sheep breeds, a vital aspect of the nation’s heritage and agricultural economy.

As part of its broader mission, the Directorate continues to implement vaccination and treatment programmes aimed at maintaining the health and purity of local breeds.

These efforts provide essential veterinary support to livestock breeders, ensuring sustainable production and strengthening Oman’s food security.

Beyond government-led initiatives, the Directorate actively engages and supports local farmers, encouraging investment in livestock farming.

The participation of Abdullah bin Hamad al Alawi, representing the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Sur, exemplifies the collaboration between citizens and government agencies in enhancing domestic production.

Events like Sinaw Maqsadna 2025 serve as key platforms for knowledge exchange among livestock breeders, fostering sustainable development in this critical sector. The Directorate’s initiatives align with Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises economic diversification, food security and innovation in agriculture.

By integrating modern veterinary practices with traditional livestock management, the Directorate is shaping a sustainable future for Oman’s livestock industry while preserving the nation’s rich agricultural legacy.

The Directorate also contributes directly to enhancing food security, providing job opportunities for citizens and raising the level of productivity in the agricultural sector.
