Muscat: The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat has launched the legalisation of labour permits for Nepali workers in Oman who have not previously obtained one from Nepal. This first-ever overseas labour permit enrollment began with a special programme in Salalah from January 31 to February 1, 2025.

The event included an interactive session with the Ambassador, labour awareness discussions, financial literacy training, social security fund enrollment, and passport-consular services. This initiative ensures that Nepali workers can access key benefits under Nepal’s labour policies.

HE Dornath Aryal, Ambassador of Nepal to Oman, and Surya Bahadur Khatri, Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment, jointly inaugurated the service, with technical arrangements led by Naresh Prasad Das, Computer Engineer from the department.

Ambassador Aryal highlighted the importance of legal remittance channels, adherence to local regulations, and social security enrollment while addressing attendees’ concerns. Director General Khatri emphasised the risks of working abroad without proper authorisation and encouraged workers to complete their labor permit process.

Following the Salalah event, an interaction session was held at Nepal House, Muscat, on February 3, 2025, discussing labour rights, economic diplomacy, and concerns of Nepali workers. Community representatives, bank officials, and social activists actively participated.

Nepali workers in Oman can now apply for a legalised labour permit through the Embassy in Muscat by creating a profile in the FEIMS system, uploading necessary documents, submitting an online application, and completing biometric verification at the Embassy.

The delegation, including Director General Khatri and Computer Engineer Das, participated in the programmes and departed from Oman on February 4. The events were coordinated by Second Secretary Bishesh Kumar Sah at the Embassy.
