'AI an opportunity to expand professional horizons'

Muscat: Amidst discussions and scientific sessions, various universities in the Sultanate of Oman attended the "International Conference on Artificial Intelligence: Applications, Innovation and Ethics", the Observer caught up with with several students who expressed their enthusiasm and aspirations to benefit from this valuable opportunity.


Yousef al Kharousi, a student in the College of Electrical Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University, affirmed that the conference is a golden opportunity for him to gain updated information on artificial intelligence from prominent experts. "I am excited about this conference as it allows me to engage with scientists specialising in artificial intelligence from around the world. In my field, we require this advanced knowledge to tackle modern technological challenges in the industrial sector and future applications of this technology," he said.


Yousef added, "After participating in the workshops, I believe that I will be able to implement this knowledge in new projects that enhance our capabilities in utilising artificial intelligence practically. The conference covers topics such as education, industry and energy, all of which are areas where I aspire to apply these technologies."


Sarah al Hussainiyah, a student in the College of Computer Science at Middle East University, emphasised the conference's significance in enhancing her understanding of how artificial intelligence can be utilised in vital areas like healthcare and education.


"I have always been curious about how artificial intelligence can enhance people's lives. This conference opens new horizons for me to comprehend how this technology can be integrated into areas such as education and medicine, which are of great societal interest. What I appreciate about this conference is the diversity of topics it covers, such as ethics in artificial intelligence, which is crucial especially in the digital age we live in. These discussions will greatly assist me in developing my academic and professional skills," she stated.


Mazen al Masrouri, a student studying in the Department of Engineering at the Applied University, said, "AI is a powerful tool for solving major global issues like climate change and natural disasters. The conference provided me with insights into how these technologies can be utilised to tackle these challenges,” he said.


Ghada al Balushi, a student in the College of Engineering, remarked, “This conference enriches our understanding of AI applications in various fields, such as health and energy. As an engineering student, I believe this knowledge will greatly benefit my future career.”


Fatima al Ghafri, a student at the College of Education, said: “We gained insights from experts on how to effectively utilise these technologies to address future challenges with students, opening up new avenues for us to work in innovative fields.”
