Mwasalat to conduct E-bus trials on Muscat routes

Muscat: The Public Transport Company, Mwasalat, has started testing an E-Bus manufactured by MAN company on some routes within Muscat as part of the efforts to evaluate its performance and align it with operational standards.


During Khareef 2024, Mwasalat launched the first electric to support the achieve the national goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050.


That bus has a capacity of 28 passengers and is electronically adjusted to travel at a speed of 70 to 130 kilometers per hour, making it suitable for use within cities.


Mwasalat has taken executive steps to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations and transform sustainability plans into tangible actions on the ground.


The 2024 World Transport and Public Transport Union Conference in the Middle East and North Africa discussed ways to benefit from modern technologies and smart systems in the sector and adopt advanced transportation policies, in addition to reviewing visions and experiences on sustainability, green technologies, and electric buses, with the participation of several international specialists in the transportation sector.


There are several initiatives to raise the level of the public transport system in the country, including in the governorates, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT).


Speaking to the Observer, Eng Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport, said, "We have an agreement signed with Al Dhakilyah and there are similar plans with two other governorates."


The ministry is planning to review the Muscat and inter-city services operated by Mwasalat and a tender will be awarded to an international consultant to conduct a thorough study.
