MUSCAT; The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) in collaboration with the Oman Cycling Association (OCA) officially unveiled the details of the 14th edition of the Tour of Oman 2025 during a press conference at Crowne Plaza Hotel. The prestigious cycling event is scheduled to take place from Friday and will run until February 12 featuring five competitive stages spanning a total distance of 881.4 km across Oman’s diverse landscapes.


Saif bin Subaa al Rushaidi, Chairman of OCA, emphasised that the Tour of Oman is more than just a sporting event but it is a significant platform reflecting the Sultanate of Oman’s growing stature in global sports. “The Tour of Oman is a collective effort involving multiple government entities, including the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Muscat Municipality, Royal Oman Police, Ministry of Health and several other stakeholders. This event not only promotes the sport of cycling but also serves as a global platform to showcase Oman’s breathtaking landscapes and cultural heritage,” al Rushaidi said.


“International journalists and media houses will cover the event extensively, reinforcing Oman’s status as a key player in the global sporting scene,” he ended


The Tour of Oman 2025 will commence with the third edition of the "Muscat Classic" on Friday, setting the stage for the main competition that starts on Saturday. Ahead of classic event, a kids entertaining race will take place during the morning session on Friday as part of motivating kids into cycling sport. The five-day race will challenge elite cyclists with a mix of terrains from coastal roads to rugged mountain climbs.

Hisham al Sinani, Director General of Welfare and Development at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth stressed the importance of integrating sports tourism into Oman’s national economy.


“One of the key pillars of Oman’s sports strategy is leveraging major international events to boost economic activity. The Tour of Oman is an integral part of this vision, attracting global attention, enhancing tourism and generating significant media exposure for the Sultanate of Oman,” Al Sinani said.


Echoing this sentiment, Haitham Mohammed al Ghassani, Director General of Tourism Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, highlighted the meticulous planning involved in selecting key locations for the race.


“We have carefully curated starting and finishing points that not only challenge the cyclists but also highlight Oman’s unique blend of tradition and modernity. This tour will serve as an exceptional promotional tool for Oman’s tourism sector,” al Ghassani ended.


Despite facing technical and financial challenges, the Oman national cycling team will participate alongside the world’s top-ranked cyclists. The event presents a valuable opportunity for local riders to gain international exposure and elevate their performance standards.


“Our cyclists continue to improve year after year, and competing in such a high-profile race will only push them further towards excellence,” Al Rushaidi stated.


Since its inception in 2010, the Tour of Oman has grown into a major sporting spectacle, attracting millions of viewers worldwide. Previous editions of the race have crowned legendary champions such as Fabian Cancellara, Vincenzo Nibali and Chris Froome. The 2024 edition saw extensive global coverage, with over 180 hours of broadcasting across 180 countries and media partnerships with major international networks such as Eurosport, Sky Sports, CNN and BBC.


Mansoor al Nabhani from Muscat Municipality said that the inaugural edition of Tour of Oman was began in 2010 and run by the Municipality. “ Tour of Oman event was part of Muscat festival in the previous years. Muscat Municipality is among the government stakeholders for this top sporting event by providing different logistics and organisational arrangement,” he ended
