MUSCAT: Discover Collection, a newly launched global hotel brand that prides itself on revolutionizing luxury hospitality, is developing its flagship property here in the Sultanate of Oman.
The 30-chalet property, named Discover Collection Ras Amud, is currently under construction at a stunning setting at Habalain village in Khasab on the Musandam Peninsula. Set on a promontory overlooking the tranquil waters of the Sea of the Oman, the resort will combine unmatched serenity and exceptional privacy to appeal to primarily celebrities and wealthy guests.
The Oman property is the first of around a dozen equally niche resort projects currently in various stages of conceptualization and development at select locations around the world. All of them will bear the name of the hotel management company Discover Collection, set up by Bernhard ‘BB’ Bohnenberger, the former president of the Six Senses chain. The company is a joint venture with US-based Discovery Land, a real estate developer and operator of residential communities for the affluent.
But unlike conventional hotels that charge guests based typically on a daily tariff system, the Discover Collection properties are targeted exclusively at the rich and famous willing to pay premium rates for the incomparable privacy that the resorts offer. Guests must also sign up as members of the Discover Collection chain.
Underscoring the Omani government’s support for the prestigious project, in terms of its potential to contribute to Musandam’s wider economic development, a high-level team of officials recently toured the site at the invitation of the promoters. Among the visitors were a number of government ministers, under-secretaries and representatives from the Office of the Governor of Musandam.
Slated for launch for the end of this year, the Discover Collection Ras Amud is being constructed by UAE-based contractor Intermass Engineering & Contracting Co LLC. Each of the 30-odd chalets, distinctively designed with a high level of luxury, will feature an exclusive pool.
As for the philosophy underlying its exclusive resort projects, the hotel management company explains: “We hand-pick Discover Collection locations – from retreats and sanctuaries to high-energy suites – to offer magical and transformative experiences in the most inspiring surroundings. We believe curiosity leads to memorable adventures and a unique perspective, contributing to purposeful travel. We put communities first, so we can give back to them.”
Besides boosting high-end tourism in Musandam, the Ras Amud resort will add to a growing number of developmental landmarks currently under implementation at key locations around the governorate. Most notable is the Dibba – Lima – Khasab road project, which will connect all three of the governorate’s biggest population centres. Major infrastructure facilities, such as Khasab Airport, Khasab Port, and fisheries harbours are being upgraded as well.
In the tourism sector, the government has allocated plots for development in Bukha, Madha and Dibba. State-owned tourism investment arm Omran Group is developing a resort in Dibba. At Khasab, a new resort by Club Med is planned as well. Waterfront developments are also progressing at Khasab, Dibba, Buja and Lima.
