MUSCAT: The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) will lay the foundation stone for a landmark project connecting Masirah Island to the national electricity transmission network on February 6. The event will be held in Masirah under the auspices of Eng. Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.

This RO 72 million project is the first of its kind in Oman, utilising advanced technology to enhance power reliability, safety, and sustainability on the island. It includes the construction of a 132/33 kV substation in Masirah, along with a network of overhead, underground, and marine transmission lines stretching approximately 94 km to link Masirah with Mahout’s 400/132 kV substation.

OETC’s electricity transmission network, operating at 132 kV and above, serves most of Oman’s governorates, with the company also managing the country's interconnection with the Gulf power grid at 220 kV. The Masirah project is a key step in strengthening the nation’s energy infrastructure and supporting economic growth. — ONA
