

The Ministry of Social Development reviewed the role of families of people with disabilities in the first family guidance and counseling programme
Faisal bin Hamad al Hajri, Head of the Cerebral Palsy and Physical Disabilities Center, said, "The first family guidance and counseling program aims to provide support and assistance to families who care for their children with disabilities, by providing the necessary information and guidance to improve the quality of life and enhance social integration."
This programme comes to provide advice and guidance that helps in dealing with daily challenges, and developing the skills necessary to achieve independence and self-reliance.
It included a lecture by Safaa al Harthi, a researcher in psychological counseling, in which she addressed a number of topics such as understanding the spiritual meaning of affliction in religion, enhancing closeness to the Allah as a source of strength and tranquility, the role of prayer in relieving stress.
Al Harthi also reviewed how to understand the needs of a child with quadriplegia, the importance of expressing love and support in a scientific way, in addition to involving the community in providing psychological and family support, and the role of caregivers.
The program concluded with Samira bint Suleiman Al Qarwashiya, the guardian of a person with a disability, presenting her successful experience on the role of the family in accepting disability and the importance of the role of rehabilitation.
