BURJ AL MULUK: Lebanon said on Monday it would extend a ceasefire deal with Israel until mid-February, even though the Israeli military failed to meet a deadline to withdraw its troops. The deadly violence recorded by health officials came as residents tried to return home as Israel was scheduled to pull its troops from southern Lebanon.

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that Lebanon had agreed to an extension of the ceasefire deal between Hezbollah and Israel until February 18, after the Israeli military missed Sunday's deadline to withdraw. Lebanon's health ministry said that fresh "Israeli enemy attacks while citizens attempt to return to their towns" had wounded two people Monday in the village of Bani Hayyan, including a child. In the village of Burj al-Muluk, dozens of men, women and children were gathering in the morning behind a dirt barrier hoping to reach the border town of Kfar Kila, where the Israeli military is still deployed. — AFP
