It is both dangerous and naive to believe that Netanyahu will honour the latest ceasefire agreement. When assessing current world conflicts, I always recall Winston Churchill’s advice to learn from history.
Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister, and Joseph Stalin, the Soviet leader, were similarly naive in believing that Hitler would honour his agreements. Hitler’s consistent disregard for treaties and promises should have served as a warning. Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement, exemplified by the 1938 Munich Agreement, was rooted in the illusion that conceding to Hitler’s demands would secure "peace for our time."
Stalin, too, miscalculated with the 1939 Nazi-Soviet Pact, failing to recognise Hitler’s relentless expansionism and ideological drive for domination. Both leaders underestimated the extent of Hitler’s duplicity, enabling the catastrophic outbreak of World War II.
The parallels with today’s celebration of Netanyahu’s agreement to a ceasefire are striking. Netanyahu’s signature on a ceasefire document is no more credible than Hitler’s assurances in 1938.
Chamberlain returned from Munich in 1938 waving a paper that promised no further Nazi aggression, despite Hitler’s record of violating the Treaty of Versailles and annexing Austria. This failure to grasp the true nature of Nazi ideology led to devastating consequences.
Over 60 million people perished in World War II because world leaders appeased an evil regime instead of holding it accountable early on. History shows that decisive action in 1938 could have stopped the Nazis before their aggression escalated. Like the Nazis, Zionists only understand one thing: military force.
Similarly, Netanyahu’s track record reveals a pattern of broken promises and escalating violence. For decades he has positioned himself as the defender of Israel, leveraging fear-mongering and militarism to maintain power.
Peace agreements undermine his political agenda, which depends on perpetuating conflict. His government’s expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank and the systematic displacement and murder of Palestinians are fundamentally at odds with any meaningful peace effort. This is not merely about broken promises — it is about an extremist Zionist ideology that prioritises territorial expansion and dominance over coexistence.
Netanyahu’s actions bear an alarming resemblance to those of other historical figures who used existential threats as pretexts for aggression. Like Hitler, Netanyahu cultivates fear to justify his policies, claiming that Israel faces perpetual danger.
His extremist Zionist government uses this narrative to wage wars and expand settlements, disregarding the rights of Palestinians and the principles of international law.
The stakes today are even higher than in 1938. Netanyahu’s government possesses a formidable nuclear arsenal and his willingness to escalate conflicts poses a grave threat to global security. Appeasing this regime by forcing ceasefire agreements while ignoring its ongoing violations is perilous.
As history has shown, unchecked aggression emboldens tyrants, leading to greater atrocities and instability. Diplomacy can only succeed when all parties act in good faith. For Netanyahu and his allies, diplomacy is merely a tactic to buy time while pursuing their agenda of annexation and oppression.
To those Israelis who believe Netanyahu’s government will prioritise the safe return of hostages held by Hamas, I offer a sobering reality: Netanyahu has consistently prioritised his own political survival and ideological goals over the lives of ordinary Israelis. His extremist policies have perpetuated the cycle of violence, putting both Israelis and Palestinians at greater risk. Any hopes for lasting peace are undermined by his government’s continued settlement expansion, land theft and military aggression.
History teaches us that appeasement of tyrants leads to greater suffering in the long run. Swift and decisive military action against regimes that disregard human rights and international norms is often necessary to prevent a wider catastrophe.
Just as the world eventually recognised the need to dismantle Nazi Germany’s fascist regime, the global community must confront the dangers posed by Netanyahu’s extremist Zionist government. Accountability and justice are essential to uphold the principles of human rights and global peace.
Without addressing the root causes of the conflict and holding Netanyahu’s government accountable, the prospects for peace in the Middle East will remain elusive.
The continued existence of an expansionist Zionist regime ensures that the cycle of violence will persist, risking not only regional stability but the future of global security. The lessons of history are clear: appeasement and inaction empower aggressors while determined military resistance can prevent even greater suffering.
