SUHAR: Green Tech Mining and Services Company has launched a groundbreaking waste treatment plant in Al Arjaa, Suhar, setting a benchmark for sustainability in Oman’s mining sector. Expected to begin operations by mid-2026, the plant will handle up to 10,000 tonnes of waste daily, translating to 3.3 million tonnes annually.
Backed by an investment of RO 40 million (EUR 100 million) from Austria’s BPG Precious Metals Storage, the plant is designed to recover copper from mining waste using cutting-edge induction filtration technology. The process will produce copper cathodes with 99.99% purity through solvent extraction and electrochemical techniques.
The plant also integrates environmentally friendly innovations, including fluid recycling systems and solar energy utilization, minimizing water usage and carbon emissions.
Eng Matar bin Salem al Badi, CEO of Oman Minerals Development Company, highlighted the project's contribution to reprocessing mining waste and promoting a circular economy. “This initiative underscores our commitment to sustainability while achieving economic and environmental goals,” he said.
Ernest Griesemann, Chairman of Green Tech Mining and Services, called the facility a model for future projects in the region, turning waste into valuable resources while rehabilitating surrounding ecosystems.
