

Muscat: As part of Oman’s preparations to host the fifth West Asia Para Games in 2026, represented by the Oman Paralympic Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Oversight and Follow-Up Committee held its first meeting. The committee is composed of representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Oman Paralympic Committee and the West Asia Paralympic Federation, represented by Dr Abdul Razzaq Ahmed Bani Rasheed, President of the Federation and Dr Misbah Ibrahim Jafar, Secretary-General of the Federation. The meeting was attended by Dr Mansour bin Sultan al Touqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee; Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hinai, Secretary-General of the Committee; Akram bin Saif al Maawali, Committee Member; and Saud al Busaidy, Assistant Director General for Sports Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. Ali al Maawali, Director of Sports Facilities in Muscat Governorate, also attended the meeting, which was held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The meeting aimed to review Oman’s readiness to host the fifth West Asia Para Games — Muscat 2026. At the start of the meeting, the chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee welcomed the attendees, including the president and Secretary-General of the West Asia Paralympic Federation, thanking them for their efforts and ongoing support to ensure the success of the games through effective preparation and planning.
The agenda of the meeting included an overview of the tasks and responsibilities of the Oversight and Follow-Up Committee, as well as discussions on the technical aspects of the games. Topics covered included proposed sports, the technical committee for the games, technical and international delegates for the events, competition venues, and technical regulations for the games. Organisational, logistical and financial matters were also discussed, such as regulatory and financial frameworks, proposed accommodation hotels, transportation, and deadlines for confirming participation and submitting related documents.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the proposed working committees for organising and managing the event. These include the main organising committee, technical, administrative, financial, media, marketing, logistics, medical and volunteer committees, among others.
