Morocco’s Mohammed El Morabity completed a special third title as the Oman Desert Marathon concluded its 10th edition in style at the Rimal Al Sharqiya in Bidiyah on Wednesday.

“The spectacular landscape of the desert and Omani hospitality made my third triumph at Oman Desert Marathon even more special,” Mohammed said during the awards ceremony.

Shaikh Mansoor bin Zahir al Hajri, Member of Majlis Ash’shura representing Bidiyah, was the chief guest for the concluding ceremony in presence of Race Director Said al Hajri. The 2025 Oman Desert Marathon concluded with Mohammed winning his third title, securing both the final stage victory (1:48:41) and overall win (15:44:23). His brother Rachid El Morabity, a seven-time champion, finished second overall (15:56:48).

Oman’s Saleh al Saidi (16:02:47) took third place, echoing his 2023 result and following his strong runner-up performance in 2024.

In the women’s category, Morocco’s Aziza Raji dominated with a final stage win in 2:37:49 and overall victory in 22:39:17. Great Britain’s Lydia Oldham secured second place (25:56:30), with compatriot Sally Ford taking third (27:49:29).

Great Britain’s female runner Jane Boxhall was the lone participant for the first 100 km Desert Hike category.

Under perfect 21°C conditions, competitors tackled the final 21-kilometre stage, culminating in an emotional finish as Italy’s Luigi Fanelli crossed the line in 5:23:07. The desert fell silent briefly before erupting in cheers from fellow runners and staff, celebrating the completion of this extraordinary challenge, a loyal runner that has come for his third edition.

The organisers also recognised the dedication of staff and volunteers who made the event possible.

The medical team reported no serious incidents throughout the five-day challenge, testament to the athletes’ preparation and desert-running expertise. The event concluded with a celebratory dinner, where participants shared stories and memories from their epic journey through the Rimal Al Sharqiya.
