Air India Express makes changes to baggage rules, to launch Chennai service

Muscat: India's budget airline, Air India Express, has increased free baggage allowance up to 47kg for families and plans to expand routes to the Middle East.


Air India Express operates flights to Kozhikode, Mumbai, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kannur. from Muscat and will launch services to Chennai (February 4). It also operates flights between Salalah and Kozhikode.


Travelers on Air India Express will get 30kg of free check-in baggage and 7kg of cabin baggage allowance


For premium travelers, Xpress Biz, baggage allowance will be between 30kg and 40kg.


Air India Express introduced the Xpress Lite for those traveling light, offering lower fares and a +3kg cabin baggage allowance.


Passengers can also enjoy a free cabin baggage allowance of up to two pieces with a combined weight not exceeding 7kg. The policy allows for an additional personal item, such as a laptop bag, a handbag, a backpack, and any other small bag with dimensions no larger than 40cm x 30cm x 10cm.


The airline has introduced Xtra Carry-On services, allowing passengers to purchase additional cabin baggage allowances of 3kg to 5kg.


Musical instruments can be carried as cabin baggage at no extra charge if they fit within 56cm x 36cm x 23cm. For larger instruments, passengers can purchase an additional seat for items weighing up to 75kg.
