The Ministry of Health has announced that citizens and residents wishing to perform the Haj rituals in 2025 must visit selected health institutions for their respective governorates to receive necessary vaccinations before travelling. This is a basic requirement for entering the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to prevent infection transmission and ensure public health.
As the Haj season for 2025 approaches, the importance of health measures to ensure a safe pilgrimage is increasing. The Ministry of Health has made it mandatory for Omani citizens and expatriates to receive specific vaccinations based on requirements from Saudi Arabia. These include the quadrivalent meningitis vaccine, followed by the meningitis vaccine, seasonal influenza vaccine, and monovalent Covid vaccine.
The meningococcal conjugate vaccine (ACYW135) is recommended for all Haj participants aged two months and above, providing protection against meningitis complications for five years. Those aged six months and above must also receive the seasonal influenza vaccine to protect against seasonal influenza complications. Additionally, individuals over 65 and those with certain medical conditions should receive the monovalent Covid vaccine to protect against the Omicron strain.
It is important to note that Haj vaccines may cause side effects such as fever and cold-like symptoms. It is recommended to take painkillers, stay hydrated, and avoid strenuous activity if necessary. There is no specific time interval required between vaccinations and they can be taken simultaneously or separately.
The global nature of Haj increases the risk of infectious disease transmission, making preventive measures crucial. Proper health preparation, including required vaccinations and adherence to preventive guidelines, is essential for a safe and comfortable pilgrimage experience.
