SUR: The newly developed Sur Waterfront in the Al Ayjah area of the Wilayat of Sur is a stunning addition to South Al Sharqiyah Governorate’s coastline. This modern project, costing approximately RO 300,000, spans 16,000 square meters and promises to boost tourism and urban development.
Salem bin Khadem al Hashemi, Director of Planning and Investment in South Al Sharqiyah, highlighted the project’s significance, stating, “This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to develop service facilities and enhance investment in the tourism sector.” The project aims to elevate the region as a premier tourist destination while promoting sustainable development.
The waterfront boasts contemporary designs and integrated facilities, including a health walkway, four cafes, diverse restaurants, a beach observation tower, and an event square surrounded by lush green spaces. Additional amenities include prayer halls for men and women, dedicated parking spaces, and public utilities.
Al Hashemi noted that the project is designed to attract both local and international tourists, offering a unique blend of relaxation and entertainment. “This waterfront will undoubtedly position the Wilayat of Sur as a leading tourist hub in the governorate and the Sultanate of Oman,” he said.
The Sur Waterfront is part of a broader strategy to capitalise on the governorate’s natural coastal resources. Other projects in the pipeline include waterfront developments in Ashkhara, Asilah, Al Haddah, Tiwi, and Al Bar. These initiatives aim to strengthen the governorate’s competitive edge and drive sustainable economic growth.
