

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) will host the 10th GCC Universities Sports Tournament under the auspices of HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, at the university's cultural centre on Sunday.
The 10th GCC Universities Sports Tournament is organised under the slogan ‘Our Gulf is Our Pride’ with the aim of strengthening fraternal ties between university students and higher education institutions of the GCC countries and enhancing sports and cultural cooperation.
Students will compete in a variety of sports, including athletics, swimming, football, basketball (3x3), volleyball, badminton and table tennis. The competitions will be held in various sports fields, such as the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Seeb Sports Stadium and the Military Technical College.
The tournament constitutes a genuine opportunity to develop sports talents and enhance academic and sports cooperation between universities and higher education institutions in the GCC countries.
Speaking of the event, Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, highlighted the significance of the event in promoting sports and academic collaboration among GCC institutions. “This tournament is more than just a competition. It is an opportunity for our youth to engage in meaningful exchanges, foster friendships and celebrate the rich cultural heritage that binds us as a region. Through sports, we aim to nurture a generation that values teamwork, resilience and excellence.”
