MUSCAT: Mobile phone subscriptions in Oman grew by 3.8% by November 2024, reaching 7.3 million, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information. Postpaid subscriptions surged by 26.2%, totaling 2.25 million, while prepaid subscriptions declined by 3.8% to 5.05 million.


Active mobile broadband users rose to 5.76 million, while fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 2.9% to 579,331. In contrast, fixed-line subscriptions dropped by 25% to 436,859, with analogue fixed-line subscriptions plummeting by 72%.


Muscat Governorate accounted for 49.3% of analogue fixed-line subscriptions, followed by Dhofar (10.3%) and North Al Batinah (2.6%). The remaining governorates collectively contributed 37.8%.


The statistics reflect shifting consumer preferences towards mobile and broadband services, highlighting the need for continued investments in telecom infrastructure to meet growing demand. — ONA
