MUSCAT: Omani rally driver Abdullah al Zubair announced his return to his favourite sport, the world of rallies. Al Zubair stated that he will compete in the Middle East Rally Championship this season, starting with the first round of the championship hosted by the Sultanate of Oman through the Oman Automobile Association on January 23 to 24.
Al Zubair will drive a Subaru Impreza (N14), which he previously drove in the 2023 Oman International Rally.
Abdullah has participated in many local and regional competitions, including the Middle East Rally Championship, the Jordan National Rally Championship, the World Desert Rally Championship, and the Baja Championship in Poland, Spain, Greece and other countries.
Al Zubair explained that he is happy to have the experience of participating in the Middle East Rally Championship this season and returning to the roads and stages again. He seeks, first and foremost, to complete all rounds and obtain good positions in the category (N) if possible. Al Zubair will be accompanied in the seat of the navigator by Taha al Zadjali, who has previously been an assistant to many Omani racers, such as champion Khalid Soomar and his brother Khalil, as well as a racer from Jordan.
Al Zubair stated that "The Oman International Rally is one of the most difficult rallies in the Middle East and requires a lot of effort, patience, and caution, as well as the element of experience to deal with the difficult roads and stages of this rally."
“This year’s rally will be held in the Wilayat of Suhar and in new stages that we have never raced or experienced before, so we believe that the competition will be open and strong between the champions of this category, and we wish everyone success in advance," he concluded.
