MUSCAT: Oman’s General Import Price Index rose by 1.1% in Q3 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Significant increases were noted in various categories: miscellaneous manufactured goods (+11%), beverages and tobacco (+6.7%), food and live animals (+5.7%), machinery and transport equipment (+5.3%), and chemicals (+4.3%).


In contrast, prices for mineral fuels and related materials plummeted by 22.2%. Quarter-on-quarter, the index fell by 4.8%, led by steep declines in beverages and tobacco (-22.4%), mineral fuels (-11.6%), and chemicals (-10.8%). However, raw materials saw a sharp 32% increase, while vegetable and animal oils rose by 9.2%.
