The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) is raising awareness of its programmes and services through its “We Reach You” campaign, especially those directed at juveniles.

The “Juvenile Accountability” Law was issued by Royal Decree No 30/2008, and accordingly, the Juvenile Affairs Department was established, which aims to rehabilitate juveniles and educate them according to their abilities and readiness.

Fahd al Fahdi, MoSD’s Director of the Juvenile Affairs Department, said: “The ministry seeks to provide development plans and programmes for juveniles as they need to be integrated into society and transform them into productive individuals who contribute to the development of the country.” The Juvenile Affairs Department takes up juvenile issues with relevant authorities, conducts research and studies on delinquents or those at risk of delinquency and finds appropriate solutions in light of the scientific practices.

The Programmes and Activities Department prepares juveniles to continue their studies by setting up educational centres affiliated with the Ministry of Education.

Cultural programmes aim to instil healthy habits among juveniles by establishing libraries and conducting seminars and competitions. Religious programmes aim to educate juveniles about the foundations and rituals of religion, through lectures and awareness courses in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.

The ministry also works to provide juveniles with vocational and technical training programmes that help them learn a profession and earn an income.

The sports programme also contributes to enhancing the physical fitness of juveniles. In addition, the health programme protects them from contagious and infectious diseases.
