Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology(MTCIT) on Monday announced that it is mandatory to register all common taxis (referred as orange taxis) in licensed smart applications, set to take effect starting April 2025.

This initiative comes as part of the ministry's strategic plan to regulate and enhance public transport services in the Sultanate. It is also in alignment with the Land Transport Law and the prior announcement issued on August 16, 2024, which emphasized the importance of transitioning to licensed smart applications.

To facilitate this shift, the ministry confirmed that the application would be made available for use by taxi operators during the first quarter of 2025, allowing adequate time for drivers and operators to familiarize themselves with the system before full enforcement.

This step represents a significant move toward modernizing Oman’s transport sector, ensuring greater convenience and efficiency for passengers while enhancing regulatory oversight.
