AL HAMRA: Al Hoota Cave in Al Hamra, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, has witnessed a significant increase in visitor numbers, surpassing 43,000 in 2024. This surge is attributed to the introduction of two new features: a suspended rope course for adventure enthusiasts and electric carts to facilitate movement inside the cave.

Tour guide Shams bin Abdullah al Hattali highlighted that Al Hoota Cave has two entrances. The first, located in Al Hawiyah village, allows valley waters from mountain peaks to flow into the cave, which spans about 5 kilometres. The second entrance, designed for visitors, offers a walkable stretch of up to 500 metres.

The cave also boasts water lakes exceeding 20 metres in depth, captivating visitors with breathtaking limestone formations, long-tailed bats, rare spiders and blind fish. On the upper floor of the visitor reception building, a geological museum displays a variety of unique rocks and formations.

Sulaiman bin Salem al Subhi, Geological Exhibition Manager, explained that the museum educates visitors about the region's distinctive geological nature, the cave's formation over millennia and the evolution of rare species like blind fish and spiders. The exhibition also delves into how water shapes natural wonders such as stalagmites and stalactites.

Al Hoota Cave, blending natural beauty with rich geological history, is a haven for nature and adventure lovers. Open daily, it remains a must-visit destination in Oman. — ONA
